Flanked by the unmistakeable wing span of Concorde, is the new Skoda Kodiaq.

Some facts:

Skoda’s first large SUV is available as a five or seven seater; the former has the largest boot in class with an adjustable second row of seats for the latter.

Four trim levels are S, SE, SE L and Edition with seven seats mandatory on the latter two with optional seven seats on the SE at a cost of £1000.

Engines range from a 1.4 TSI 125 PS only available with the Kodiaq S at £21495 on the road. Four wheel drive capability is available as is the Dynamic Shift Gearbox for remaining trim levels. Another 1.4 TSI 150 PS with three different power outputs available on 2.0 TDI versions also exists, culminating in a range topping 2.0 TDI 190 PS 4×4 DSG at £34895 OTR.

Some opinions:

Skoda has taken a bold step trespassing on traditional marques’ territory in this sector. Combined with keen pricing, there will be more of a following in Continental Europe I suspect, because of badge snobbery on our shores.

The wide, three dimensional radiator grille’s raised square concealing the radar detection sensor looks odd.
